South Korea's AI Basic Act has been in force since 22 January 2026, the second comprehensive national AI law after the EU AI Act and the first in the Asia-Pacific. Combined with PIPA data protection and sector-specific financial and technology regulation, Korea has a rapidly maturing AI governance landscape.
